“We really can make a difference in people’s lives and in the delivery of health care for everyone, and that is the most satisfying part of being a lawyer.”
- Christina S. Nacopoulos
Christina S. Nacopoulos says local defense attorneys initially underestimated her experience. In fact, before coming to Erie, PA, she had practiced in Ohio for seven years with several substantial seven-figure results. She remembers the first medical malpractice case shed tried after moving to Erie and establishing her own law practice there in 2001. “The offer was less than my client’s medical bills,” she recalls. “After three days at trial, the hospital agreed to match the doctor’s earlier settlement. We declined and eventually won a settlement nearly tripling that of the doctor’s. My client said he’ll never forget how I fought for him.” Defense attorneys rarely underestimate her twice now,
FOCUS AND PREPARATION Nacopoulos is a medical negligence attorney, nursing home neglect attorney and catastrophic accidents lawyer in Northwestern Pennsylvania and Northeastern Ohio. She is a strong advocate for the elderly and believes that their later years are the most precious.
Intense preparation is the key to her success. “Most cases are won or lost before even getting to the courtroom”, she says. “I will do whatever it takes to be the best prepared and most knowledgeable I can be on every case.” Based on her success throughout the past 15 years, more than 90 percent of her new clients are referrals from other attorneys, judges and even physicians.
RECOGNITION FOR HER ACHIEVEMENTS Nacopoulos has been inducted in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. She has lectured on nursing home law for the Ohio Association of Justice, and remains a current member. She has also lectured on nursing home law for the prestigious Bernard Friedman Institute. Nacopoulos serves on the board of governors of the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, and is a former member of the board of governors of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, for which she remains active, along with membership in several bar associations. She is also a member of the American Association for Justice.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE “We really can make a difference in people’s lives and in the delivery of health care for everyone, and that is the most satisfying part of being a lawyer,” Nacopoulos says. She cites a case for a failure to diagnose complications following a back surgery. The resolution led to the physician lobbying the large, urban hospital to purchase the diagnostic equipment that would have helped her client, equipment that can be used to help future patients avoid her client’s misfortune. “Cases like that are very gratifying for a plaintiffs attorney,” she says. “I absolutely love the practice of law. Other than God and my family, there is nothing more important to me.”
